James A. LaValle joined Young/Sommer in 2023, and focuses his area of practice on environmental, land, and municipal law.  Prior to joining Young/Sommer, James worked as an Assistant County Attorney in the Mid-Hudson Valley, where he worked on environmental, land, and general municipal law, as well as providing counsel to various boards and agencies within the county. James also spent time in Rochester, NY where he worked as an associate attorney primarily handling mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate matters.

James graduated with his J.D. from Albany Law School in 2021 and received his Bachelors Degree from Siena College in 2018. While at Albany Law, James was a quarterfinalist for the Donna Jo Morse Negotiation Competition and represented the school’s chapter of Phi Alpha Delta at the annual international mock trial competition.

Prior to obtaining his J.D., James worked as a Youth Employment Counselor in Ulster County assisting underserved populations in his hometown obtain and hone job skills.
