Posted on January 2, 2024

Young/Sommer is excited to announce that Laura Bomyea Darling has been named Partner, effective January 1, 2024.  The accomplishment is recognition of Laura’s tactful skill for navigating New York’s permitting processes to develop energy and transmission projects.  Since joining Y/S in 2012, Laura regularly counsels wind, solar energy and transmission developers on Public Service Law Article 10, Article VII and Executive Law Section 94-c permitting, compliance and construction issues.  Recently, Laura has been instrumental in assisting Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) with navigating the Article VII Certification and Compliance Filing process for a 339-mile underground and underwater high-voltage direct current transmission line which will deliver 1,250 MW of renewable energy from the US/Canada border to New York City and offer critical reliability support to the State’s electric grid once operational in 2026.  Jim Muscato, the Chair of the Firm’s Energy Practice stated “Laura has been integral to the Firm’s unparalleled renewable energy and transmission practice. She brings a serious intellect and depth of experience on energy issues and I am thrilled to be a colleague of hers.”  Laura received admission to the New York State Bar in 2014.  She holds Bachelor of Arts degree from Bard College and graduated magna cum laude from Albany Law School in 2013.
